The primary objective of the Concerted Action CLARINET is to develop technical recommendations for sound decision making concerning the rehabilitation of contaminated sites in Europe.

CLARINET analysed current approaches on scientific, environmental and socio-economic topics related to contaminated land management. Priority research needs have been identified in this area and further co-ordinated R&D activities, both on a European and a national level stimulated.

CARACAS Concerted Action Initiative within the Environment and Climate Programme of the European Commission DG XII

Member States of the EU are developing soil quality criteria and risk assessment procedures. In order to concentrate these efforts and to support harmonised principles in environmental protection legislation within the European Union, a scientific co-operation between the European Member States was initiated: the Concerted Action on Risk Assessment for Contaminated Sites. Sustainable Development Research Network Database

The Sustainable Development Research (SDR) Network is a UK wide initiative, co-ordinated by the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) in London in collaboration with the Centre for Sustainable Development (CfSD) at the University of Westminster and the Centre for the Study of Environmental Change and Sustainability (CECS) at the University of Edinburgh. The SDR database will provide a resource for all of those - researchers, researcher managers, policy-makers, industrialists and other stakeholders - who fund, undertake, manage or use the findings of SD research. The initial database (November 2001) contains information on over forty research organisations. It will be progressively expanded to provide definitive coverage of British and overseas research relevant to sustainable development in the UK
